Bed Bugs are Biting in Hampton Roads, local experts
teach residents and housing officials how to combat the pest with free bed bug seminar.
September 21, 2010 (Newport News, VA)
Bed Bugs are biting back in Hampton roads as 1 in 10 phone calls are related to bed bug
infestations at Commonwealth Exterminating Company, a local pest control
company servicing all of Hampton Roads. Housing officials will be
attending a bed bug training seminar on September 30th to fight back.
All major networks reports of bedbug infestations at
epidemic levels in most major US Cities. Hampton Roads is not sparred from this
real blood-sucking blockbuster. Bedbugs lurk in the late hours of the night
sensing carbon dioxide from their prey and using their antennae to find the perfect
place to drill for human blood. Breeding every 5-6 days and molting into new
life stages after every blood bath, bed bugs will infest a dwelling space (or
where people may sit for at least 30 minutes) in just a few weeks.
Bed bug problem calls are coming in from every type of venue: Luxury
hotels, motels, senior adult/hospice homes, military housing, residential and
multifamily housing, movie theaters, public transportation, and moving trucks.
Bed bugs are very present in Hampton Roads and are not going away says Cory
Newell Senior Account Manager for Commonwealth
Exterminating. He says that the bed bugs are becoming so bad that they are becoming
resilient to some chemical treatments.
If the public knows what to look for, bed bugs can be easy
to spot. In fact, visual inspections are the preferred method of determining if
a bed bug infestation exists according to survey respondents by the National
Pest Management Association.
Commonwealth Exterminating will be instructing property
managers, homeowners, maintenance directors, everything that is needed to know
to properly identify and treat for bed bugs, share solutions, and to determine
the severity of an infestation. Fighting back, taking action, and working hand
in hand with housing officials to get rid of bed bugs, these blood sucking pests, will be all
that we can do to challenge the epidemic of bedbugs in Hampton
Roads. This training will be provided free of charge at the Virginia Peninsula
Association of Realtors on September 30, 2010 from 12pm-130pm at 1001 North
Campus Parkway in Hampton, VA.
